Must Have Equipment for Mama's Home Gym
A lot of my students have been asking me about my at home workout plan. The answer is that it varies widely, but at the very least I try to get in 2 days of cardio and 3 days of weight training each week. Within this framework, I run, cycle, do Barry's, BBG, Iron Strong and more. The baby makes it hard to get downstairs to the gym, so I've stocked our apartment with all the necessary equipment to get in workouts without having to leave the house.
Here are my must have pieces of home gym equipment:
+ Dumbells: I have a pair of 5lb, 10lb and 20lb weights at home. Start where makes sense and work up. When I first started strength training, I couldn't have lifted 20 lbs. Now I can.
+ Travel yoga mat: I am obsessed with these travel yoga mats from Manduka. They are made biodegradable, non-Amazon harvested, natural tree rubber have great grip and will fold up to fit in almost any bag. When I lived in New York and didn't have a baby, I used to carry one around in my computer bag.
+ Booty Bands: resistance bands are a great, portable way to take your home workout to the next level.
+ Trigger point foam roller - sometimes I do 3 leg days in a row when I'm teaching and feel like I can barely walk. I love to relax with some Netflix (loving Jane the Virgin rn) with my foam roller and release the tension from my tired muscles.
+ Yoga bolster - I love doing a nice restorative yoga session on my off days (check out YogaGlo for yoga flows led by world class teachers that you can do at home). A bolster makes the long form poses in restorative yoga extra luscious.
